Kiambu Road has evolved into one of Nairobi’s most vibrant commercial and residential corridors. At the heart of this growth is Quick Mart Kiambu Road, a popular shopping destination for residents of Ridgeways, Muthaiga North, and those commuting between Nairobi and Kiambu Town. Whether you are a first-time visitor or a regular shopper, navigating the 10–15 kilometer journey from the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) is straightforward if you know the right routes.
1. Using Public Transport (Matatus)
Taking a matatu is the most cost-effective way to reach Quick Mart. The route is well-served by several saccos, ensuring you won’t have to wait long for a ride.
Where to Board
In the Nairobi CBD, the primary stage for Kiambu-bound matatus is located at Commercial (near the Ronald Ngala Street intersection) or Bus Station (BS). You can also find them along Tom Mboya Street, specifically near the Fire Station.
Route and Fare
-
Route Number: Look for matatus labeled Route 100.
-
Destination: Ensure the matatu is heading to Kiambu via Kiambu Road (and not via Thika Road/Kirigiti, though Route 100 is almost exclusively Kiambu Road).
-
The Stop: Ask the conductor to drop you off at the Quick Mart/Ridgeways stage. The supermarket is very prominent on the left-hand side if you are heading away from the CBD.
-
Cost: Fares typically range between Ksh 50 and Ksh 100, depending on the time of day and weather conditions.
2. Driving via Private Car or Taxi
Driving offers more flexibility, especially if you plan on doing a heavy grocery run. Depending on traffic, the drive takes anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes.
The Main Route
-
Exit CBD: Head north out of the city via Murang’a Road.
-
The Interchange: Follow Murang’a Road until you reach the Pangani Interchange. Stay in the lanes directed toward Kiambu Road (keep left to avoid being swept onto Thika Superhighway).
-
The Straight Stretch: Once you are on Kiambu Road, you will pass the CID Headquarters and the Karura Forest entry points.
-
Arrival: Continue past the Northern Bypass overpass. You will see Quick Mart Kiambu Road on your left, shortly after passing the Ridgeways Mall area.
Using Ride-Hailing Apps
If you are using Uber, Bolt, or Faras, simply input “Quick Mart Kiambu Road” as your destination. A ride from the CBD typically costs between Ksh 500 and Ksh 800, depending on the vehicle category and “surge” pricing.
3. Alternative Routes (Avoiding Traffic)
Traffic on Kiambu Road can be heavy during the evening rush hour (4:30 PM – 7:30 PM). If you are coming from other parts of the city:
-
From Westlands: Use Limuru Road, drive through Muthaiga, and join Kiambu Road at the junction near the Saudi Arabian Embassy.
-
From Thika/Ruiru: Use the Northern Bypass. Exit at the Kiambu Road interchange and turn left (heading toward Nairobi). Quick Mart will be a short distance ahead on your right; you will need to find a designated U-turn spot to access the entrance.
Pro-Tips for Your Visit
-
Peak Hours: If possible, visit between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM to avoid the heavy inbound/outbound commuter traffic.
-
Parking: Quick Mart Kiambu Road offers ample, secure parking for customers, making it a “park-and-shop” friendly location.
-
Landmarks: If you reach the Aga Khan University Hospital (Kiambu Road branch) or Evergreen, you have gone too far.
Note: Quick Mart is situated in a high-traffic area. Always ensure you cross the road at designated points if you are using public transport, as vehicles on Kiambu Road often maintain high speeds.
